To set your phone with Android to just use 3G you need to get to the Test mode.

Enter in the dialer and dial

* # * # 4636 # * # *

4636 means INFO if you look at your keypad

Tap “Phone Information”
Scroll down to “Set Preferred network type”
Select “WCDMA only”
