How to remove files with strange characters

To remove files that contain symbols and unknown characters, list the files with ls -li and take note of the inode number

root@linux:~ # ls -li
total 4420
2495260 -rw——- 1 root root 13810 Jan 28 2011 ????!
2495249 -rw——- 1 root root 13810 Jan 28 2011 ????!

Run the find command and see if it shows the desired file

root@linux:~ # find . -inum 2495260
./????!

And then complete the find command to search, find and remove the file.

root@linux:~ # find . -inum 2495260 -exec rm -i {} \;
rm: remove regular file `./20\36406\b!’? y

HP Data Protector error: [12:1625] Import host failed.

root@hp-ux:~ # omnicc -import_host suse11host.bkp
[12:1625] Import host failed.

The host information cannot be added/updated in the Cell Manager configuration file.

* Please check that the Data Protector services on the Cell Manager computer are running.
* Also check that Data Protector Inet service on the remote computer is running
(use: telnet 5555 to see if the service responds).
* Make sure that the remote client is not already part of another cell.
Afterwards use Data Protector GUI or omnicc -import_host command to manually import
the client to the selected Cell Manager.
* On NetWare make sure Data Protector directory structure is created properly
(check that directory SYS:USR\OMNI\CONFIG\CLIENT exists) or check that
localhost (127.0.0.1) entry exists in SYS:ETC\HOSTS file for servers
not using DNS IP address resolution.

Installing bash on HP-UX

Go to http://hpux.connect.org.uk/ and download bash and dependencies

Copy the packages to the HP-UX server and expand the packages

root@hp-ux:/root# cd /tmp/bash_hpux
root@hp-ux:/tmp/bash_hpux# gunzip *

The site showed that I needed three dependencies and the package for bash

root@hp-ux:/tmp/bash_hpux# ls -l

I installed all four packages

root@hp-ux:/tmp/bash_hpux# swinstall -s /tmp/bash_hpux/bash-4.2.045-ia64-11.31.depot
root@hp-ux:/tmp/bash_hpux# swinstall -s /tmp/bash_hpux/gettext-0.18.2.1-ia64-11.31.depot

root@hp-ux:/tmp/bash_hpux# swinstall -s /tmp/bash_hpux/termcap-1.3.1-ia64-11.31.depot

Although it is not necessary, I made a link in /usr/bin pointing to the bash binary

If you want to create a new database system, either remove or empty

This database is used by HP System Fault Management. To repopulate the database, first check how many providers are there

root@hp-ux:~ # cimprovider -ls > /tmp/cimprovider_orig

User sfmdb must have a valid shell. In my system didn’t have so I changed the user’s shell.

root@hp-ux:~ # grep sfmdb /etc/passwd
